Sunday Summary

Captain Mike here.  We've decided to add a weekly feature to our blog for the folks who like to crunch numbers.  I think it's fun, but you be the judge.

We started our journey on June 10th, 2015.  To date, our numbers are:

Days since departure                                                                       67
Miles traveled                                                                           1,302.3
Hours underway                                                                           213.5
Average speed  (knots)                                                                  6.0
                             (miles per hour)                                                   7.0
Locks transited                                                                                 54
Fuel bought (gallons)                                                                      361
Average fuel burn (gallons per hour)                                              1.7*
Average mile per gallon                                                                  3.6*

*These numbers were a very pleasant surprise for me.  The Lady J weighs in at a very Rubensesque 13 tonnes, with 2 80 hp Perkins diesels.  From other owner's comments, I always planned on 3 gallons per hour fuel burn, and 2 mpg.  With a 250 gallon fuel tank, I never really worried about fuel very much.  I have a dip stick in 50 gallon increments which I check at least weekly. When it gets near 1/2 a tank, it's time to top off.  It's good to know we have greater range than I had planned on.
