North Channel here we come!

Leaving Killarney early Sunday morning

What a great run we had today.  Woke up early Sunday morning and cast off the lines a little before 7:00 a.m.  We wanted to get a good days cruising in and make our way across the North Channel as far as we could.  The weather for the most part was just fine.  The wind did start to pick up in the afternoon, but once we came in a little closer to the shore everything seemed to settle down.  It really was a gorgeous day for cruising.

Beautiful day ahead

The scenery was beginning to be a bit more mountainous

Aunt Aggie was leading the way!

It really is this blue

PERFECT CRUISING WATER!

See the love in this one?

She reminds me daily that she is with me every step of the way on this journey.

Beautiful anchorage

Evening sky while anchored out in Salmon Bay
Our plan was to anchor out, so Mike found us a nice protected area to pull into.  We were the only ones there, didn’t see anyone else around, even on shore.

It’s amazing when you anchor out the sounds are so completely different, actually the lack of sound, which is a good thing.  No voices other than our own and an occasional one in our head, (LOL).  At times you can here the quiet hum of the inverter, but even that cycles off and on.  As I sit here Monday morning typing this, the clouds outside are thick and thunder rolls in from far off.  A little rain hits the roof, but not enough for me to close the window.  Not sure if or how far we will get today.

Woke up Monday morning to some ominous skies
Well we started out around 7:30 a.m. in a little mist, hoping that things would improve as we went.  Well they didn’t, in fact they got worse and really quickly.  The rain began to pour and the wind howled.  Unfortunately we didn’t have great access to internet and even the weather radio was not coming in clearly so we had to chance it.  Either way we knew we couldn’t stay in that particular bay.  As Mike was fight out way out of the way we touched bottom not once but twice.  Scared the crap out of me and well made the Captain say a few choice words.  But he got us through it, luckily our props are above our keel.  4 hours of rain, wind and waves and Mike masterfully guided us to Meldrom Bay and to a marina there.  I couldn’t believe how happy I was to put two feet on land.  We were met by a very nice young man that worked at the marina, came to find out he is the only one that works there (at least at this time).  He quickly got us settled and we met him up at the marina office to pay and check the place out.  i was thrilled, there was a somewhat comfortable little place to sit down a lending library, two washers and dryers, and showers.

Decided to duck into Meldrum Bay at the marina to escape the nasty weather.

Ahhh, nice and snug at the dock.  At this point we were pretty much the only ones there.

Just happy to be on land

The young man at the marina did let us know that the one and only place in town to eat was right up the road, it was an old Inn/Restaurant.  We immediately both agreed that we would enjoy lunch out since we only treat ourselves about once a week to a meal out (other than ice cream that is).  We deserved it after the last 4 hours.  They didn’t open till noon so I threw two loads of laundry in before we went up to the Inn.  What a wonderful eclectic place it was.  The building itself has been around for over 100 years, it has a funky garden next to the main building and plenty of outside seating along with some inside for eating.  We were met by the owner who seated us right away.  The menu was limited to sandwiches hot and cold, and a couple of salads, but the food was FANTASTIC!.  I had the grilled chicken and Mike had the cheeseburger, and we split a Caesar Salad.  I don’t usually talk about what we had to eat but so far in two months this place was the best food I have had in a while.  Just simple good food, great atmosphere and the service was the one of the owners.  They are transplants from San Francisco who bought the place site un seen.  They were tired of the rat race and wanted to be able to enjoy their lives instead of working like crazy, to collect “things” that you never have time for because you work too much. The Inn and Restaurant and Inn is only open for a couple months out of the year.  Amen to that!  It’s one of the reasons we are doing what we are doing here on the Lady J.  Simply your life so you can enjoy it!

A great place for an awesome meal.

In the garden next to the Inn was this amazing miniature replica of the original house

Flowers from the Inns Garden

What an eclectic place, I just LOVED IT!!!!

An old sign from day gone by

Just not sure what kind of message this send. (LOL)

Breathtaking Lillies

The rain had finally stopped and the sun working it's way out.

Rainy days means lots of things out to dry.

We spent some time with this wonderful gentleman (who I believe his name was John).  He was single handing the sailboat behind  him.  Would be meeting his wife in a couple of days.  Wish we had more time to chat.

A beautiful ending to a long day

So for now we will be here at least until Wednesday.  The winds are supposed to change and start coming out of the north for the next day or so.  We can’t make our journey to Drummond Island where we will enter back into the US until the direction of the wind changes.  North winds will make the ole girl roll too much and that makes for unhappy cruisers.  So we are content to stay here tied up to the dock safe and sound.
