Finally on the move |
Finally on Tuesday morning we had that window of opportunity we had been hoping for. So shortly before 8:00 a.m. we pulled the lines and we were on our way. Not sure at this point what our destination was going to be, but further down the lake was our goal. Cruising was great and the winds, waves and weather was on our side. We had thought of possibly stopping in Sturgeon Bay but because the weather was so good we decided to keep on going and only cruised by to take a photo of the light houses.

Six hours later we arrived at Salmon Bay Marina in Kewaunee, WI. This was a small marina with mostly fishing boat, okay they were all fishing boats, but the price was right and we were ready to quit for the day. The guys that worked at the marina were extremely helpful and friendly in fact the head guy reminded us a great deal of our nephew Chris.

Not much to see at this marina |
We knew that this was only going to be an overnight stay so we opted not to venture out to town. We got the boat settled in for the night, enjoyed a hot meal on board and a quiet evening.
The next morning I (first mate) woke up around 6:00 a.m. to a boat that was COLD! Let me explain something about our boat, we don't really have heat per say. We have a space heater that we move from room to room. Well I quickly threw on some warm clothes and yes my fuzzy slippers and headed up to the salon to see if I could get the heater turned on. Meanwhile I left the Captain sleeping all snug in his bunk. I figured a cup of hot coffee was first. I then stuck my head out the hatch and WOW! Yes I went back in grabbed my camera and started shooting. The sky was crystal blue and clear, the water was as flat as a mirror and the air was as I said before COLD! (48 degrees to be exact) But oh what a beautiful morning it was. Seeing that things were calm I rousted the Captain out of bed and by 8:45 we were on our way.

One cold and drippy boat. |

Even this guy wasn't sure he wanted to stick his head out. |

What to do when the auto pilot is running, take crazy pictures of course. |
We only had a little over three hours of cruising to do that day, possibly more if the part Mike ordered for the auto pilot had arrived in Manitowoc. So off to Manitowoc we went. Again the cruising was pretty good, by the time we reach Manitowoc the waves had started to build a little. We pulled into Manitowoc Marina around 12:45 p.m.

Hope we get in before this big guy wants to come out. This is the ferry that takes cars/passengers to Luddington, MI. |
We were met at the dock by two very helpful young men. We told them our situation, that if the part Mike ordered had been delivered we were most likely not going to stay but continue on to Cheboygan. If it hadn't arrived then we would stay until it did. So the young man said he would run up to their maintenance department to see if the part had arrived. In the mean time I checked the weather again to see what was happening ahead. We had noticed the waves were starting to pick up as was the wind. Well the part had arrived, Yahoo!! But because the weather was once again looking a bit IFFY we decided to spend the night.
Since we had arrived so early we had time to do a little site seeing around town which was a little less than a mile from the marina. While we were out we stopped for ice cream sundaes at an old time confectionary. We very seldom go out for a meal, but ice cream is something we enjoy and can't keep on the boat (no freezer). So ice cream for dinner it was. Night all!
