One more day in Midland

Saturday was our last day spent in Midland, the wind has been a bit crazy and the weather unpredictable so we ended up staying an extra day.  We spent the day working on boat chores, which seem to be never ending, but kept us busy.  We worked on putting the mast with the steadying sail back up.  That’s always a good thing to have that back in place.  When it is down you do some serious maneuvering to get around it.  Mike worked on replacing some snaps on our front window covering.
Steadying sail up and ready for use.

Bikes back in places without the steadying sail in the way.

Replacing those darn snaps

Working on our boat card book

I decided to finally come up with something to do with all of these boat cards that we have collected in the last two months.  In case you aren’t familiar with boat cards, it’s basically a business card that some cruisers use.  It’s a convenient way of giving your information to others that you meet.  It also helps you to remember names of folks you meet along the way.  Very often you remember the name of the boat and not always the name of the people aboard the boat.  So I took an old computation book that I had from my office supply days and decided I would use it like a scrap book of sorts.  I taped the cards into the book in chronological order as to when we met folks.  Wrote down where we met them and any particular information about them that would be useful.  Also added some doodling with pictures etc.  So far so good is has helped to keep them in one place.
Took a ride through a couple of the other marinas in town

Check out these cool murals painted on the side of a grainery.

At this marina, you can have them pull your boat out of indoor storage anytime you want to use it
and when done they put it back.  Fancy

Not sure if I had mentioned this before but on Friday night we met a couple at the marina, Will and Karen.  We did the usual visit to each other’s boats and spent some time on our boat visiting. What a really nice couple they were.  Saturday morning they came by and said they were making a trip to the store and wondered if we would like to come along.  Even though we had just been to the store the day before we decided to take them up on the offer and ride along.  What is it about every time you go to the grocery store when you get home you think of half a dozen things you should have purchased.  After the trip to the store they took us on a short tour around town and visited a couple of the other marinas.  That was after checking to make sure no one had any frozen items in their bags of groceries.  It’s comforting to know how kind some folks are.

Speaking of kind, a gentleman from a boat across the fairway hollered across to Mike and said he was coming over on his dingy to bring us something.  Hmm what could it be.  Well the guy hopped on his jet ski and quickly came across and brought us two butter tarts with Canadian flags in them.  Monday was their Civic Holiday, I guess you could compare that to our Labor Day, kind of.  The wife was hanging out the back of the boat and said they picked them up at the bakery that morning and wanted to share some with us.  Again, the kindness of strangers makes my heart happy.  We did wonder though why the guy brought them over on his jet ski, but later that night we realized why.  The marina was so big that it was quicker for him to deliver them by jet ski across the water than to walk all the way around by land.  One smart guy.  So that night we enjoyed a nice dinner of chicken alfredo and had butter tarts for dessert.

Yummy Butter Tarts for dessert

Some reason Captain thought it would be a good idea taking a picture of me doing the dishes.  He did help dry.
