Oh little town of Medina!

We left Middleport, Sunday mid morning and worked our way over to Medina, which again was only 5 miles away.  Along the way our photographer, Rebecca, okay I can’t really call her “our” photographer, but she followed us along our 5 mile journey and took photos. She was truly amazing, at one point she was standing on the roof of her car to get the shot.  Now that is devotion to your craft.  We plan to meet up with her today to pick up the jump drive with the photos.  The cruising from Middleport to Medina, was an easy one.
I could hang out at a place like this, love it!

I just loved these weeping willows along the bank

Gorgeous field

We hadn’t stopped in Medina during our cruise last summer so we were both excited to see what this little town had to offer.  Well offer it did.  So far this town has become our favorite.  Medina is known for its sandstone and the majority of the buildings in the historic town are built with this beautiful rock.  The first place we ventured off to shortly after docking was the railroad museum. We knew it wasn’t open on Monday and Mike wanted to get there before it closed.   Railroad museum doesn’t quite cover all that they had to offer.  The place was owned and run by a gentleman that was truly passionate about his collections.  He had wonderful stories about everything.  You could literally stay there for hours to look through all the collections that had been donated to this facility.

Trains Galore!

Mr Miles would have loved all of these.

And these

And for those of you that know me (Jana) I just can't get away from some things BCOP.
After spending a couple of hours touring the railroad museum we were off to take a walk around town.  So many different shops, eating establishments and architecture to take in.  Several places were closed so we decided to come back Monday morning to check them out.

Beautiful Sandstone buildings

I made dinner for us that evening.  The food turned out well, but oh lord did it heat up the boat.  I should have known better to fix a hot meal on a boat that was already warm from sitting in the late day sun.  We literally had to eat our dinner outside on the picnic table seeing that the temperature was about 20 degrees cooler out there.  This worked out well as we were able to meet some of our dock mates and allow the boat to cool off.

We ate alfresco since the cabin was so HOT!

Later after dinner we walked over to Meggie Moo’s, Ice Cream Parlor.  It was fantastic, the owner Megan was there to wait on us.  She was delightful and filled us in on all the wonderful places around town that we should be sure to visit. The prices were very reasonable and the ice cream was YUMMY.  Also found out she has free wifi, so I told her I would be back to use the wifi and partake in some more sweet treats.  This sweet tooth of mine is going to be the death of me yet.  We turned in early, well early for the Captain.  I think I have brought him to the “morning side”, as apposed to the “dark side” he’s coming to bed earlier and getting up earlier.

This was what I awoke to

View during our morning coffee.  Boats from California and Florida.  Hope to meet them again along the way.
Monday morning I woke up early looked out the port near my bunk to see a spectacular sunrise.  So I quickly threw on my camera and was out the hatch taking photos.  Mike woke up alarmed thinking something was wrong because of me moving around the boat so quickly.  I assured him I was only taking photos and he quickly went back to sleep, for a while.  Later we both had coffee on the fly bridge and enjoyed a quiet morning, afterwards we did some more exploring through town.  Stopped to get another cup of coffee and share a muffin at the Hat Factory Cafe, stopped at Cas-Nic Cookies for cookies and then over to Della’s Chocolates for some home made chocolate.  Remember I told you about the sweet tooth and well Mike is not to far behind, he too enjoys a sweet treat.  We returned back to the boat in time to see of some friends we had made, Kim and David from Solona Beach, CA.  They were making their way down the canal on their way to Florida too, but would be doing so in a smaller time frame. We were sure we would meet up with them again along the way.

Views from our morning walk over to the falls.

Downtown Medina's waterfront.  Lady J up there in front.

Beautiful waterfall on our morning hike.

Yes I went down this huge slide, it reminded me of the one at my elementary school.

Another cup of coffee and shared a muffin.  What a relaxing morning.

A sweet little garden at the end of the dock

Our new friends Kim and David on their way this morning.
