We arrived in Middleton, oh Lord let me think about this. After being so many places you tend to forget where you are and what day it is. So let's see, we arrived here Friday afternoon (it's now Sunday morning). Middleton is a lovely little town and we were able to find a great place to dock on the public wall. There have been a couple of other boats come and go this weekend but nothing to crazy.
After arriving on Friday we met a wonderful couple, David and Glynnis (not sure of the spelling on that one). They currently live in Michigan but came to the US a little over 10 years ago from England. David is a Methodist pastor and is currently on a three month sabbatical. He actually built the boat they are cruising on. I don't know all the specifics about the boat except that it is really cute and fits their needs. It is a small boat and minimalist would be a good word to describe it. The job David has done building it is just amazing. They are living very simply which I admire, but must be honest I don't know if I could go that simply. They are new to long term cruising so as good boaters do we invited them to share a meal with us on Friday night. We had a wonderful time and I was so happy to meet them. They left Saturday morning to move further along the canal. Hopefully sometime we will run into them again.
Saturday we took a great bike ride around town. About 5 miles, town isn't very big. I (first mate) did some laundry. Again, must do some as there are facilities available. I must admit though this laundromat was the nicest one I have been in. It was clean had newer machines, well lit, a good stack of magazines to read and a change machine that actually worked. It's amazing what little things can make one happy. We visited the local diner for lunch (only ones in the place so the service was great). Then went for a walk around town. It started raining shortly after lunch and continued the rest of the day. So needless to say our remainder of the day was spent on the boat, reading, catching up on emails and facebook, doing engine inspections and I was baking. Next to where we were docked they were having a bi-annual event and had some serious wood fired grills going. It was interesting that during the rain there was all this smoke billowing around us. What was even more ironic is that this all took place in the parking lot of the fire station. Middleport is a nice little town and today we are (hopefully) on our way to Tonawanda in hopes of finding a dock there for a couple of days.

We saw this cat climbing out a screened window and soon figured out why he was creeping around. Look below at that squirrel unaware he is about to be pounced on. Not to worry though squirrel escaped unscathed. |

This beautiful boat came down the lock Saturday morning. |

Friday morning after we arrived at Middleport. Dave and Glynnis's boat is there on the left. |

Part of downtown Middleport. This was pretty much the extent of the downtown area. |

Mike at the library steps on Friday, which oddly enough wasn't open. |
I just wanted to tell you that I'm loving reading your blog. I grew up in Cleveland so it has been really interesting to read about your adventures in the Great Lakes! Cheers - Ellen
