The canal on our way to Brockport |
Since we were docked right down town Fairport near EVERYTHING, my morning routine was a little bit different. Maybe not so much different as I kind of felt on display. We were docked right next to a public area, where at 6:00 a.m. there was a group of retired men gathered around a picnic table drinking coffee and discussing who knows what. What I do know is they were just outside our window. And when I say this I mean within feet of our boat. And yes this was all "legal" as it was a public place. By 6:30 a.m. they were gone and then came in the lawn boys. Yes at this wonderful hour they were there to cut the grass, blowers and all. But again I must repeat we were in a public place. What makes this different than other places we have docked is usually we are docked next to other boats or if we are docked at a public dock it is pretty desolate and quiet. But it was a beautiful morning and a little on the cool side. Actually got out the sweatshirt and jeans, yes I said that in the middle of July. It was in the 50's this morning.
Off to Brockport. The cruising today was phenomenal cool weather, fantastic skies and hardly any boat traffic. The locks (only 2 today) went well and bridge tenders were ready and waiting for us. Good cruisin!!! See some of the photos below, but be sure to read all the way to the end.

We were cruising so close to the Rochester Airport that planes went
overhead every 5 minutes. |

OKAY yeah another one. |

The Captain gets a break while the first mate takes over the helm. Hmm who has the camera now? |

A gorgeous B & B right on the canal. Oh wouldn't I love to run this place. |

Picture perfect countryside |

This is where we spend our time while under way. |
As you can see by all the photos today was a picture perfect day, literally for being on the canal. We arrived in Brockport around 2:30 p.m. The public docks here are just beautiful. Well kept up, bathroom and laundry facilities right outside your boat. And yes I got excited about laundry. You take for granted when living on land that you can do laundry whenever you want, but when on the water you have to do it when the facilities are available. So yes I do get excited when a place has a washer and dryer.

Downtown Brockport |
After checking in with the dock master we quickly got the boat settled, hooked up etc and headed for town. Brockport is a small college town and has a great small town feel. Shops galore along with restaurants, a movie theatre, multiple churches, bookstore, and ICE CREAM! Yes this place too had wonderful ice cream. You noticed I said "had" yes we "had" some and it was "scrumptious". After our tour of the town we (okay I) did laundry, Mike caught up on email and read for a while. We also met a couple that had cruised 29 years. Wow! Nice folks, but now they were doing the camper thing and enjoying that too. We made a visit for dinner to the local diner. The last couple of times we have eaten out, which isn't often when you are a budge boater, but several times we have gone to supposedly "better" establishments, but only to be disappointed by the service and the price. So we are back to our favorite places, the local diners, Mom and Pop places that the food is wonderful, prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and fast.

Must have the occasional selfie |

Great little bookstore |

Can't get much more small town than this. |
Brockport has been a lovely little town and we will absolutely be back for another visit someday. Now on to Gasport and Tonawanda.
