Back to Gasport

Well we left Brockport this morning early and where on our way to Gasport.  Which was the first place we docked on the canal when we started.  It's a small little tie up with only 3 spaces and no facilities, just electric, but as you know by now we are pretty much self contained.  This morning when we left boy was it chilly, specially for the middle of July.  The temperature came in at 54 degrees.  Needless to say we pulled out the jeans and long sleeve shirts and these were worn for the majority of the day.  But if you will notice I still have my flip flops on.

Today was yet another PERFECT cruising day.  We couldn't ask for better.  I was amazed today at how many farms we went by and how beautiful they were.

But then next to some of these beautiful farms you see this...

A poor dock that you know has not seen any action in quiet some time.  So sad, but all part of life on the canal.  While on the canal you see an assortment of many modes of transportation.  Below was a family of kayakers.  I was told that kayakers can go through the locks for free.  Not sure I would want to do that and besides how do they radio the lock masters to let them know they need to go through.  They either wait for a boat to come through or hope like heck that the lock master has seen them.

And just when you don't think things could be any better along comes this group below.  Following us closely along the canal, giggling and waving and calling out our name "Lady J".  Mike even tooted the horn a couple of times which of course set them off on another giggling chorus.  They then pulled over laid out a blanket and sat down with the lunch bags and had some lunch.  What a great way to spend the after noon.  Must admit though it did make me miss our little dude Miles.

We arrive at Gasport about 2:30 p.m. with plans of going on to Tonawanda in the morning to spend the weekend there.  WRONG!!! after doing a little reading on line and other places we came to find out there is a HUGE festival going on there this weekend and it will be SRO (Standing Room Only as I was informed by my hubby).  We would never be able to get docking space and if we did would most likely be rafted with other boaters.  Not something we particularly want to do.  So we have changed our plans and will go back to Middleport which is one town east of Gasport.  Okay have you noticed that every place here seems to end in "port".  Gasport, Spencerport, Middleport, Freeport, Lockport and on and on and on.  We will stay in Middleport for the weekend and work our way back to Tonawanda on Sunday afternoon.  Good to be flexible don't ya know!

Oh yeah and Moose on the Loose strikes again.  I guess I am not the only one with time on their hands.  He seemed to have gotten in a bit of mischief today.  Happy Boating.

Moose catching some rays on the foredeck

Checking the lines

Checking out the local vegetation.

Really Moose, climbing a tree?

Then thinking that ice tea might cool him off after all this mischief

Hiding after all that mischief and taking a nap!
