What might you see on the canal.

Ok just had to ask Mike if today was Tuesday.  I am not complaining but seriously if it weren't for my pill case I would not know what day of the week it is.  So it's Tuesday and were are docked in Newark, NY.  We cruised yesterday from Spencerport to Newark at total of 8 hours and went through 4 locks and happy to say with no scuffles.  The weather yesterday was just beautiful.  A little warmer than what it had been but sunny and a nice little breeze so it made for a great day on the canal.

Lets talk about the canal.  For those of you that have not experienced a ride on the canal let me tell you a little about what I see along the way.  First think I notice is that there is an abundance of GREEN, wonderful, luscious, all different colors of green.

There are parts of the canal that all you see are trees, all kinds of luscious trees.

Occasionally there are bridges, bridges of all types, sizes and colors.

And wildlife, let's not forget them.

Interspersed among all this green are quaint little towns, some thriving others just trying to get by , yesterdays towns we came across where,  Pittsford, Bushnell Basin, Fairport and Palmyra.

The town of Fairport is one of the larger towns on the canal.

Cruising through Fairport

Some interesting boats docked in Fairport.

Then nestled around these towns are homes, docks and wonderful little hideaways.  Some elaborate, some just very simple but they have all brought joy to someone at some time or another.

Docks for relaxing

Docks with boats

Beautiful canal side homes

More beautiful homes

Even this simple chair and bag of BBQ chips I am sure brought joy to someone.

Also on the canal as if you didn't guess already you see boats, big, small, kayaks, canoes, you name it they are out there.

Their first mates are first rate.

Guys out fishing for the day
There are also locks along the way, 35 in all.  Always easy to see by their navy blue and yellow painted buildings and lock equipment.

One thing that you will ALWAYS see along the canal is COLOR, all kinds of colors in all kinds of ways.

Just loved these chairs and their rainbow of colors
And the kayaks all lined up ready to go

When you cruise on the canal don't expect to go fast.  Literally the bikers on the path next to you will go faster than you are.  It's all about the journey not necessarily about the destination.
