Blew into Hastings

Just when you think you have it down the wind throws you a curve ball.  More on that later.

Our morning started off really well in Campbellford, Ontario.  At about 8:15 we walked over the bridge and into town to see what Dooher's Bakery had to offer.  WOW is all I can say, well not actually.  I have never in my life seen one place filled with such wonderful yummy things.  You literally open the door and the aroma is there to greet you. We hardly ever eat donuts maybe 3-4 times a year, but these were well worth the wait.  We treated ourselves to one donut a piece and then bought a beautiful loaf of their most popular 9 grain bread.  We did learn that since they use NO PRESERVATIVES we would have to eat the bread within a day or so.  Oh darn! Huh not really, it is so good I think half the loaf was gone by the end of the day.  We were also told since boat conditions vary to put it in a bag and put in the in the fridge that would keep it a day or so longer.

The showcase was filled with everything and if you didn't see it there the ladies behind the counter would find it for you.

Look at this scrumptious display of bread that was still very warm as
we walked by. They even sliced it to order.

Donuts, bagels, breads, meat pies, cookies, oh my!

We don't eat donuts often, but these were well worth the wait.

One loaf of Oh my God wonderful bread!

Now that we had donuts in our belly and fresh bread on the boat we were ready to get a move on down the waterway.  The temperatures were still favorable, but as the day went on the wind started to pick up.  We had 3 regular locks and a double to get through today.  Luckily there was at least two hours of cruising time after we got through the first three.  Well the scenery was breathtaking, but the canals combined with the ferocious wind today certainly reeked havoc on the Lady J and her crew.   She was all over those first three locks.  At one point Mike actually lost the boat hook in the lock when the wind took the boat out of our control.  Luckily the lock master was able to retrieve it for us. Thank God we made it through those 3 locks and had a good 2 hours of just cruising time, although the wind was not calming down a bit, but it didn't seem to affect our cruising.  The scenery like everything we have seen here in Canada was just breathtaking.

The colors were so vivid they almost seemed fake

Check out the waves coming out of lock 16, that wind was not forgiving today.

Check out the position of these flags, just a little windy.

Just a beautiful to be

So many beautiful cottages along the way

If I had the money this one would be ours that way the WHOLE family could come to visit.  Dream BIG!

Not sure what this was for but took a picture of it anyway.

These folks had their own personal island

Another big one, but oh so nice.

I loved the terraced gardens on this one and look at that staircase on the other.

This one had it's own railway to get the boat out of the boat dock.

Tonight we decided to stay at the marina here in Hastings as opposed to tying up on the wall.  They have water, electric and wifi.  We needed to fill up our tank, and visit with the kids.  Speaking of the kids it was great we got to talk with both grandsons.  The youngest, Jacob could actually comprehend what was seeing on the screen and when I waved to him he would wave back.  Melted our hearts.  Then the bigger one, Miles after being a bit shy at first was showing us all kinds of things from his feet to his belly to his Minions and Transformers.  It was so wonderful to see all of them along with our daughters and son in law.

We took a short walk into town to check out the hardware store and purchase a sprayer nozzle for the hose, must clean off this dirty, dirty boat.  We blew our eating out budget on the dock fees so eating on board was the way to go.  I fixed some gnocchi with chicken and carrots and we enjoyed some of the chocolate we bought yesterday.

What a crazy name for a road, this is where the marina was at.

Hastings City Marina was quiet lovely

We ended the day working on the blog and making plans for tomorrows trip across Rice Lake and into Peterborough.  Here's hoping for calm winds.
