Detroit

Okay this post is way past due.  Our final trip of the season this year was to Detroit.  We left September 30th and didn't return until October 4th.  It was our first official trip other than the ones we have taken to the Islands (Put n Bay, etc.)  We set out on a beautiful morning, water was calm the sun was bright and we were able to make it to Erie Metro Park without a problem.  It was a beautiful park and we were able to ride our bikes around. The following morning we woke up to fog and a lot of it, but since we were not on to much of a schedule we decided to wait it out.  The fog eventually started breaking up and we set off for Detroit.

We spent the night at the Monroe Yacht Club.  Because we are members of the Harbor Bay Yacht Club we were able to take advantage of the reciprocal docking and were able to stay for free.  From Monroe we headed up the Detroit River, it was a great transit and we experienced several "first".  We went under our first bridge, we saw our first big city from the water, we maneuvered between huge tankers, and dredgers, past several lighthouses.  The site of downtown Detroit was just breathtaking.  I must admit this trip certainly helped me realize how much I really enjoyed cruising.  I can only imagine what our future holds and how many places we will see.
