Our Boat

1973 Gulfstar Trawler, MK1

In the salon is this wonderful bench seating that will fit four ( really good friends),  or 3 acquaintances,  or 2 tired people or one DIVA that likes to lounge (that would be me the first mate)

The seat back on the left folds forward and stores charts while below the seating stores provisions.  The cabinet to the right of the black stool is more wonderful storage.

Opposite the bench seating is Mike's chair and new chart/computer table he built.  When not in use it folds up agains the wall.

Above is a shot of the master state room.  We opted for separate bunks as opposed to the double.  We would not comfortably fit into a double, specially since one would always be crawling in over the other.  So the two bunks work well.  We designed and made a "cubbie hole" piece to put between the bunks on the drawers.  Mike also removed the holding tank for the head which was located below the bench between the two bunks.  It had completely rusted out, eeewwwh!!!!  So we painted the inside and made it into storage.  Specially since the new holding tank is below my bunk and took away 3/4 of one of my drawers.

The renovated head.  We installed a new gravity head, cleaned out the storage areas behind the head and added some baskets.  And painted the floor with a deck paint for now until we can afford some new flooring.

In the Galley we took out the old oven and stove and replaced it with a propane stove and small electric oven.  We added bead board, made new countertops and drawer fronts.

We added a roll out shelf above the fridge that holds all the plates and cups.

We also added an extra countertop that flips out from the side.  We worked in as much counter space as possible.

The new dinette also had bead board, which really lightened up the space.  It was pretty cave like before.

The forepeak we painted the walls to lighten it up added some bright colors and took out the head that was located right at the base of these two bunks (ewww)  Plus took out the sink and made it into more storage and more space for guests.

That is pretty much our Lady J.  She is comfortable and easy now to live on.

  1. The fabric you used in your pillows and curtains is great -- very spiffy. I like the variety of pillows too -- one is bound to be just the perfect size and fluffiness. :)

Everything looks beautiful. Have fun on your journey.

P.S. - I like that your boat's name is clearly visible in a font that can be read and is BIG. Some of those dinky little boat names in "quirky/cutesy script" are a mite annoying. Your Lady J is just right. Enjoy your GulfStar.
